Sunrise, with all its reassuring promise of constancy and opportunity is rivaled only by sunset for the imagery it creates and the soul-stirring emotions it evokes. Nature’s daily gift of the rising and setting of the sun can be seen at myriad locations around the world, each offering its unique viewpoint. The Kingdom of Thailand, blessed with magnificent and diverse natural landscapes is renowned for its spectacular sunrises and sunsets that combine with people, pagodas and nature itself to create images that lift the spirit and delight the eye with their almost mystical beauty. Constantly responding to the changing morning and evening light, it is a beauty that can be mesmerising in its power, yet transforming in its effect. It is also without borders. Neither a sunrise nor a sunset has need of a translator.

Praised for the harmony of its design Angkor Wat is today the instantly recognised and nationally cherished symbol of Cambodia. The largest, best preserved and certainly most admired temple at a site which is home to more than a hundred stone temples and whose original purpose is thought to architecturally mirror celestial patterns to create harmony on earth. Built in the early 12th century, Angkor Wat is a symbolic representation of Hindu cosmology with the vast temple building representing the mythical Mount Meru, common to both Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Attracting more than a million visitors each year, Angkor Wat is practically a tourism industry to itself. So mesmerizing though is it’s effect that for many, being in its presence becomes almost a spiritual experience.
